What was New for 2013

A new Sport trim joins the Explorer lineup with a standard twin-turbocharged V6 engine, four-wheel drive, 20-inch sport alloy wheels, and two-tone leather-trimmed seats. New features for all 2013 Ford Explorer models include auto-dimming headlights, passenger-side front knee airbag, and available heated.

What was New for 2014

Only two additions for the 2014 model year: automatic on/off headlights with wiper activation become standard on all models, and second-row heated seats included on the Limited model.

What was New for 2015

Only one noteworthy change for 2015: a new Sport-Appearance package available for the XLT model that includes 20-inch wheels, black body-side molding, and roof rails, along with dark Magnetic paint on the grille, mirror caps, and liftgate.

What was New for 2016

The Ford Explorer was completely redesigned for 2016 with new exterior styling, a new interior, improved control interface with hard buttons, a new 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine with 270 horsepower, and the new Ford Explorer Platinum was introduced.

What was New for 2017

The 2017 Ford Explorer SUV carries over unchanged.

What was New for 2018

Five new wheel options were introduced for 2018, available onboard Wi-Fi hotspot was introduced, as was Ford's new available Safe and Smart Package including Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning, Lane Keeping System, and Blind Spot Information System.
